Measure the Coefficient of Friction

Using the ANSI Standard

ANSI A326.3

After 20 years, the tile industry has re-evaluated the best practice for measuring, reporting and interpreting the Coefficient of Friction (COF) of a floor’s surface. The current standard, ANSI/TCNA A326.3, Standard Test Method for Measuring Dynamic Coefficient of Friction (DCOF) of Hard Surface Materials, offers a more dynamic test method with the option to conduct a dry or wet test in the lab or in the field regardless of conditions. By conducting routine slip resistance testing, or DCOF testing, your business is better prepared to comply with industry standards. DCOF testing strengthens your defense of fall-related claims by starting a database of DCOF measurements, which is proof of compliance with current industry standards.

At Safe Space Ingenuity, Inc. we are proud that our services comply with relevant ANSI Standards (ANSI A326.3). SSI uses the BOT-3000E which is the only tribometer named in the ANSI A326.3, and our summary reports adhere to ASTM guidelines for reporting (ASTM F1694-14, ASTM F2048-00).

SSI auditors use the BOT-3000E to perform DCOF testing according to the ANSI A326.3. What matters the most is that you are taking the necessary steps to implement a slip and fall prevention program to lower risk exposure and demonstrate compliance with the standard (documented DCOF results stand up in a court of law).
